Tewari Ska

Rock A Shaka from Japan release a CD compilation of Dada Tewari’s ska and pre-ska sides titled “You’ll Never Know: Caribou Ska Collection” shortly. Tewari was involved in the Jamaican recording industry from it’s earliest days, releasing 78’s on the Caribou and Downbeat labels from the end of the 50’s. He continued to produce in the first half of the 60’s with ska 45’s on the same labels and another short lived label, Regal. Perhaps … continue reading…

Seven Days (in dub) on ebay

I don’t usually worry too much about LP’s but an original copy of Blackboard Jungle Dub on ebay last week caught my interest. This is an extremely rare album and I wasn’t completely surprised to see it made a heafty £482 ($745.50). If you check the comments on the previous post you’ll see Gary Collins has left the following message:

stay blessed chapter 1 will be released this month check out my space … continue reading…

A fine half century for Randy's

To celebrate 50 years since the start of Randy’s VP records are releasing a special 2 CD retrospective with a 40 minute DVD. The CD’s are split down the middle, the first one featuring Ska to early Reggae and the second 70’s sounds. The release has it’s fair share of fairly obvious tunes as is usual in this kind of release but there are some less well known titles thrown in too. CD 1

Reading mattersico

Issue 47 of French Reggae magazine Natty Dread is out and about and despite the fact that we don’t speak French and therefore don’t understand a word of it it comes highly recommended.

Chezidek is on the cover and is featured in a long interview with some great pictures. Representing the old school are interviews with Unity records/Sound System main man Robert “Ribs” Fearon and 80’s Dancehall sensation Little John.

As always there is also … continue reading…
