Rock A Shacka back at Studio One

After the controversy following their release of Freedom Sound last year it seemed unlikely that the Rock A Shacka crew would return to Studio One for their 7″ re-issue programme. Well they have and what’s more they’ve got some seriously killer tunes:

Rocksteady Pressure

Four quality rocksteady 7″ reissues are available from Pressure Sounds right now. These releases of Phil Pratt produced sides on repro Caltone labels were announced several months ago but were hit by production problems and have only just become available. It was well worth the wait though, the music is superb, the presentation excellent and at only £4 to £5 a pop are bit of a bargain in this day and age.

Engine 54 from 68

Following the tragic death of Leonard Dillon recently, Trojan have moved swiftly to reissue the Ethiopians debut album from 1968; Engine 54, on CD. This album has seen various reissues over the years, often with extra tracks tacked on, this release goes back to basics and features just the ten tracks as originally issued. Bigger Things

Pressure Sounds have announced that they will re-issue four seven inches of Caltone related Phil Pratt rocksteady productions next month. These were all previously issued on their CD Safe Travel: The Rare Side Of Rocksteady back in 2005. There are some choice titles here including Horace Andy’s first ever recording, Black Man’s Country as Horace Hinds and Bigger Things, the scorching horns cut of the classic Little Things by Hemsley Morris.
