Tradition on Dubplate

To mark Jamaica’s 50th Independence Celebrations Andrew Neale of Tradition records has started a series of 100 of his favourite dubplates that he has collected over the last 30 years.

Artist Unknown – Delilah

The sound quality varies as is often the case with old dubs but the music is superb, with astounding mixes of old favourites and unreleased exclusives. As if that wasn’t enough there are a variety of old sound system flyers, … continue reading…

Mixed Up

I’ve not listened to that many mixes recently but here are a couple I did check that are definitely worth a listen:

First up some English guy living in Paris, he calls himself Sir Errol and presents a radio show format that is just short of an hour long, expect ska to early reggae, big tunes and rare stuff with some very pleasant chat – really nice.

On a different tip a dancehall mix … continue reading…

Mix Up

I’ve not had time to listen to many mixes lately but there are couple that I did check recently and really enjoyed.

First up is the ever dependable Deadly Dragon Sound with a late 80’s digital dancehall selection focussing on labels based in New York and called; NYC VIBES vol. 1: The Bad Bwoy Years. Some big tunes and some rare one’s too – no rubbish though.

Secondly and on a completely different tip. … continue reading…

DanceCrasher Dubplates

More in a DanceCrasher dubplate style; Leroy Gibbons doing Lovers Question on Jammy’s cut of Heavenless from the mid 80’s. Check the dub mix too, don’t expect a Tubbys 70’s masterpiece but as digital dubs go this is tough!

Another Dubplate

I’m on a roll with these with two dubplates up on youtube in two days. This one features three cuts of the same Roy Cousins produced rhythm: Charlie Chaplin – Don’t Leave Your Baby Mother, Earl Sixteen – Julia and the basic rhythm. This plate was cut at A-Class Studio’s, the home of Fashion records in the early 80’s.

Pick Up The Pieces

Another DanceCrasher dubplate exclusive. An early 80’s dub plate mix of Pick Up The Pieces by The Royals complete with a rewind. This sounds heavier than the release version too but I’m not sure if that will come across on the youtube recording.
