It’s been over three years but finally some more Studio One from Soul Jazz. Coming soon is a single CD/double vinyl compilation called The Legendary Studio One Records: Original Classic Recordings 1963-80. As the name implies it’s something of a sampler and even though there are no ultra rare label spotters delights here there are plenty of killer tunes including many that are a lot more than the usual compilation fodder.

Check this great take on the Truth And Rights rhythm from from UK Hip-Hop legend Rodney P alongside The Peoples Army and Mighty Mo (Heartless Crew). The video was shot at one of the large student demonstrations earlier this year and after the recent riots is a great contribution to the soundtrack for the UK in 2011.

Soul Jazz Records have just released a 2nd instalment of Dancehall tunes, this is a follow up to the original release which was issued in conjunction with the great book of 80′s Dancehall pictures by Beth Lesser in late 2008. Reggae producer Clive Jarrett was shot dead in his home in Vineyard Town, Kingston, Jamaica yesterday.
Clive Jarrett started producing circa 1979 and was co-owner of the Dynamite label. He enjoyed great success in the early 80′s with LP’s by Carlton Livingston (Rumours) Lone Ranger (Hi Yo Silver Away), Welton Irie (Army Life) etc. RIP.
