Sittin' by the open fire place, In my favorite Clarks bootie…

The O’Jays may have written Brandy and had a (minor) hit with it back in 1978, but in the early 80’s Little John voiced it in a rub-a-dub style and made it his own. Brandy is out now on a 12″ on the Music Lovers imprint released by Spring Hill records, backed by yet another “connection” tune by Little John and Billy Boyo titled Houseman Connection.

The original Brandy is supposed to be about a … continue reading…

    Rusty on Dug Out

Out now on Dug Out records is a tasty re-issue of a 1982 Rusty International 12″:

Little John – What You Want To Be/Little John & Billy Boyo – Discjockey//Professor & Roots Radics – Combination

Discjockey is a bit of a comedy cut with Little John and Billy Boyo getting in each others way more than once but the Little John vocal is fine and the version doesn’t pull any punches either.

The official DanceCrasher … continue reading…

All that glitters must be… Gold Shop

Alongside the growing catalogue of 80’s re-releases by Deadly Dragon and the small but great Digikiller (both of which got a mention recently). There is a third New York outfit that are currently putting out late 80’s era vinyl and are slowly but surely building an impressive catalogue of releases. Gold Shop started off early last year with some 7″ from Phillip Smart and most recently have put out some fine singles on the Witty … continue reading…
