    Out now on Soul Jazz a selection of five Studio One 12″ singles in very limited editions of just 200 copies. All of these have previously been released on 12″ by Soul Jazz before except one which was issued on a 10″. These retail at £9.99 each and are only available direct from Soul Jazz.

    Rocksteady Pressure

    Four quality rocksteady 7″ reissues are available from Pressure Sounds right now. These releases of Phil Pratt produced sides on repro Caltone labels were announced several months ago but were hit by production problems and have only just become available. It was well worth the wait though, the music is superb, the presentation excellent and at only £4 to £5 a pop are bit of a bargain in this day and age.

    Soul Jazz back with Studio One

    It’s been over three years but finally some more Studio One from Soul Jazz. Coming soon is a single CD/double vinyl compilation called The Legendary Studio One Records: Original Classic Recordings 1963-80. As the name implies it’s something of a sampler and even though there are no ultra rare label spotters delights here there are plenty of killer tunes including many that are a lot more than the usual compilation fodder.

    Bigger Things

    Pressure Sounds have announced that they will re-issue four seven inches of Caltone related Phil Pratt rocksteady productions next month. These were all previously issued on their CD Safe Travel: The Rare Side Of Rocksteady back in 2005. There are some choice titles here including Horace Andy’s first ever recording, Black Man’s Country as Horace Hinds and Bigger Things, the scorching horns cut of the classic Little Things by Hemsley Morris.

    A harder shade of re-issue

    Pressure Sounds re-release the very first re-issue from their catalogue on the 8 Febuary, A Harder Shade Of Black featuring productions from Leonard Chin’s Santic lable. Originally re-issued in 1995 as An Even Harder Shade Of Black this was taken from the original Santic LP from around 1974.
