Digikiller get even better

What’s not to love about Digikiller/Deeper Knowledge records who have undoubtedly been the premier reissue label for vinyl in the last 12 months. Hot on the heals of a whole heap of tough Channel One ten inches and other killer reissues come three late 80’s Don Hickey (AKA Doniki) 7″s on the Harmodio imprint. The big news is that these include the all time classic Dancehall Rock.

More 14 Karat Goldshop

New York’s Goldshop have been quiet for nearly a year and it was beginning to look like they might disappear altogether so it’s great to see three new late 80’s/early 90’s reissues from them. Revisiting Mikey Jarret’s 14 catalogue from the late 80’s including an unreleased Mikey General tune and a couple of nice Sluggy vocals. Sluggy’s Too Chatty Chatty is the pick of the bunch:

Two from DKR

OK it’s official, I can’t keep up with the flood of releases from New York’s Digikiller/Deeper Knowledge records. The latest offerings include a couple of digital 12″s on the Tasha label and another selection of Channel One productions on 10″.

The two Tasha releases:

Wayne Smith – Dancing Machine/Version//Gilly Buchanan – Me No Mix/Version

Two great cuts on one rhythm both originally released on 12″; the Wayne Smith … continue reading…

A Jammy's dub

A lot of people put tunes on youtube these days. I used to think it was kind of strange to film a record going round on a turntable and then put it on the web. But I’ve seen plenty of killer this way now and seeing them on film is likely to be as close as I’ll get to owning most of them, it’s a poor substitute but it will have to do.

Anyway, if … continue reading…

DKR are pretty prolific at the moment with new reissues coming out all the time. They keep up the good work this week with a single revive form 1987, Serious Thing by Suru Board. This won’t dissapoint the digital roots people at all…

A nice Digi mix for the Trash & Ready Crew

Please tolerate the Dancehall/digital obsession for just a little longer…

Warming up for the Trash And Ready session at the Alibi in Dalsotn tonite I went looking for some new digital mixes and found a fine one posted by Billy_Boom on the Blood And Fire forum, a nice mix of (underplayed) big tunes and the more obscure – perfect.

Tracklist: Ranking Dread – Sting Stang Champion (Crystal) Jr. Delgado – Time to Work (Saxon) … continue reading…

Nitty Gritty showcase and a Willie Williams twelve

This blog doesn’t really favour late 80’s sounds over 60’s or 70’s music but it just so happens that the amount of quality late 80’s dancehall and digital stuff coming out these days is just phenomenal. So forgive me if that’s a common preoccupation at the moment.

Here comes Dug Out records with another mighty fine LP and 12″ from the Black Victory camp. First up is Nitty Gritty’s showcase LP; General Penitentiary, available now … continue reading…
