      Archives are back

On the old DanceCrasher site (that was abandoned when the new format was set up in November 2007) there was an Archives section. This featured scans of press and publications etc mostly from the 60′ and 70’s. I’ve now re-started the archives and will transfer most of the old stuff that was featured to this site, and hopefully add alot of new stuff too.

So far the Programme of the 1969 Wembley Caribbean Music Festival, … continue reading…

      The Olympic connection revisited

Sometimes these things happen I guess.

Around 18 months ago I was sent a sound sample by the very kind Daniel Kania, this was of Soul Message by Ed Parkins. A rocksteady tune on an Olympic pre release. [audio:] The suggestion was that this was the original cut of a couple of Keith Hudson tunes that seemed to have been on an old rocksteady rhythm; Allways (sic) by Al Brown [audio:] and the deejay cut … continue reading…

      The Story Of Caltone

There was a feature about Caltone records on the old DanceCrasher site. This has now been revamped, updated and added to the new site here. There is still some work to be done, mainly sorting out the sound samples etc. but there is enough here to make it worth checking.

If you can help with scans of any Caltone related Jamaican releases that are not already featured then please get in touch.

      Olympic pre release

This is a relatively minor update to the DanceCrasher site but one I thought was important enough to mention.

The obscure Keith Hudson productions of Always by Al Brown and Erotic Touch of Hot Skin by Dennis Alcapone always sounded like they shared an older Rcoksteady rhythm. Well thanks to Daniel Kania it seems that we are one step closer to ID’ing this. He has pointed out that Soul Message by Ed Parkins on an … continue reading…

      A stock label

This is pure trainspotter business I admit but I couldn’t resist a post. For sometime there has been a feature on DanceCrasher about what I called “stock” labels. These were basic coloured label designs used in the 1970’s that could be overprinted with one or more colours (usually black!) to give labels a more interesting and attractive look without producers having to worry about arranging for a full colour label design themselves. These stock designs … continue reading…

Well it’s been a long time in coming but the latest instalment of the Greatest 100 Rocksteady Tunes feature is finally here. Hopefully I’l be able to sort out the final 40 tunes a bit more quickly!

      Another twit

Web trends come and go, picking which one is worth a punt and which one to ignore isn’t always easy. I’m kind of dubious about Twitter as it seems to rely heavily on the tedious cult of the celebrity for it’s popularity. Still, I’m reluctant to miss out on what could potentially be a good thing so DanceCrasher is on there.

      Dancecrasher hacked.

This website was hacked recently. We are trying to get back to normal but it may take a while. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.

      Update 11 April.

Everything should be back to normal now except the audio player is not working. I’m hoping to fix this asap.

Google are currently blocking the site and as Firefox security setting default is set to Googles alerts the site won’t come up in firefox on most … continue reading…
