    Unreleased Duke Reid on Trojan

A double helping of Duke Reid productions from Trojan this month with a 10″ and a 7″. A total of six tunes all apparently previously unreleased.

    • Tommy McCook & The Supersonics – Michelle/The Teacher Man – The Lesson (Trojan 7″)

Tommy McCook blows the melody of Michelle by The Beatles over a late rocksteady rhythm. On the other side an interesting talking style deejay cut by someone only identified as the Teacher, the harmonies are a little high in the mix but the rhythm is great.

    • The Zodiacs – Shake Me Wake Me – Lynn Taitt & Baba Brooks Band – Forty Miles Of Bad Road
      The Zodiacs – I Can’t Do The Ska/Alton Ellis & The Flames – You’re Adorable (Treasure Isle 10″)

Shake Me Wake Me is a cover of the Coasters hit and on Forty Miles Of Bad Road Lynn Taitt covers Duane Eddy. Both tunes are nice but the pairing on the flip side are the real killers. The Zodiacs credit on I Can’t Do The Ska is speculation as the artists are not actually known, but what is certain is that this is a lovely tune, it’s incredible that Duke Reid didn’t release this back in the day. The same goes can be said for You’re Adorable by Alton Ellis, a superb 1966 sounding ska tune; you can’t go wrong with Alton.

Both releases are limited to 500 copies and come with printed sleeves, they are due for release on the 25 February.

(there is a jump on the sound sample of I Can’t Do The Ska this was in the recording process and is not on the record).
