A Down Beat Shuffle

Sunrise records have mined the 1960-1962, out of copyright era of Jamaican music many times over the last few years. They are back once again on November 11th with a very impressive three CD compilation charting the earliest years of Clement Coxsone Dodd’s production career.

Titled Down Beat Shuffle: The Birth Of A Legend this set serves up a total of 56 tunes in many styles, from Shuffle to R&B, Ballads and much more. Though a number of the tracks are lifted from the early Blue Beat catalogue which Sunrise have well and truly rinsed already this compilation includes tracks that were never previously released in the UK alongside selections from the Island catalogue etc.

Of all of the similar releases from Sunrise this collection is one of the strongest, and even if you own a number of previous issues there is enough music featured for the first time to make this a safe bet all the same.
