      Truth And Rights

Check this great take on the Truth And Rights rhythm from from UK Hip-Hop legend Rodney P alongside The Peoples Army and Mighty Mo (Heartless Crew). The video was shot at one of the large student demonstrations earlier this year and after the recent riots is a great contribution to the soundtrack for the UK in 2011.

This is a perfect excuse to feature some great versions of a great rhythm. For those who don’t know the Truth And Rights rhythm was first voiced by an Al Campbell for Studio One on a tune called Take A Ride. It wasn’t THE Al Campbell though, just another guy with the same name (or a case of changed credits by Coxsone Dodd) so ignore the picture in the clip below, that’s THE Al Campbell and not the one singing the tune!

The rhythm took it’s name from Truth And Rights by Johnny Osbourne easily one of the greatest tunes ever made in any genre…

I’m enjoying this now… Truth And Rights also provided the backing for one of the finest moments from ace deejay Lone Ranger with Automatic…

finally Massive B had huge success when he revived the rhythm in 2005 with a whole series of cuts with highlights from Richie Spice, Chezidek and Khari Kill, check the mix below
