Mini Dubstore Jammy's

Jammy'sI’m not sure what to think about this, four 7″ singles from Dub Store in Japan featuring sound system specials as recorded for King Jammy’s Supa Power in the late 80’s/early 90’s.

  • Junior Reid – Puppa Jammy Nice
Little John – Jammys Has Come
  • Little John – Jammys Rule
Colin Roach and Anthony Malvo – Hey Yo
  • Pad Anthony – Try A Thing
Nitty Gritty – Trial And Crosses
  • Chi-Lites – Jammys Better
Pad Anthony – Caan Mek We Run Away

There is some entertaining stuff here, the Chi-Lites on Sleng Teng is off the hook, but why would anyone want these on seven inches? The presentation, as always wih Dub Store releases, is very good with facsimile Jammy’s dubplate labels and die cut printed sleeves, but why not go the whole hog and put these on 10″ so at least they have the appearance of proper plates? Jammy'sFailing that I’d be just as happy with a CD or LP. Dub Store singles usually sell for around £8 in the UK which seems a lot for a bit of a mixed up format, I’m sure there are people out there who will love these though and I may still have to pick up the Chi-Lites for the pure novelty value.

I agree – why would you want to play dubplates made for another sound? Interesting stuff for hardcore reggae fans because of their historical importance – and I’m happy they’re released (in pristine quality to beat) – but should have been put out as a collection on CD/LP.

A bit disappointed with the selection too actually. Pretty boring set of riddims with standard boasting lyrics. Hope they will continue to put out some of the real killer Jammy dubs, but sorry not going to be buying any of these.
