Writing about sounds

A thanks to Seen blog for the heads up on the latest issue of Shook magazine which has a decent article on UK Soundsystems. This is nothing spectacular but a decent solid article about the growth of UK sounds, it also looks at the divide in the later 80’s between Roots sounds like Jah Shaka etc and Dancehall ones like Unity and Saxon. The basis for the article is the Musically Mad film but there is enough original stuff here to keep you reading.

I think Shook magazine rose from the ashes of Straight No Chaser, SNC had the occasional worthwhile reggae article, it’s good to see Shook keeping up the tradition. If you want to try before you buy the first couple of pages of the article are downloadable as a PDF on their website.
