Black Cinderella

Freddie McGregor’s son Stephen has made a real name for himself as a producer in recent years. He’s best known for hardcore Dancehall rhythms so this production, featuring Gyptian with a tune called On And On over a remake of the Black Cinderella rhythm, is something a little different…it’s pretty damn good too, with a much harder and more energetic feel than alot of modern “one drop” tunes.

Gyptian – On And On

The original Black Cinderella was cut by Errol Dunkley for the producer Jimmy Radway back in 1972. The tune was a huge hit and Radway went on to voice both Big Youth and I Roy on the rhythm as well as a great Melodica cut by the mighty Augustus Pablo.

This is technically produced by Don Williams of Rebel Music, but yes Stephen is credited next to the version on the promo.

Would love to know what role Stephen has played, it sounds partly band backed to my eyes (could be wrong of course). It’s certainly far removed from any of his other one drop efforts.

In any case, wicked wicked business.
